Why Wine Cave?
Burgundy is synonymous around the world for the quality of its wines and has been at the forefront of the development of wine production for centuries. Indeed here in the Yorkshire Dales we share a similar heritage with Burgundy owing much of our knowledge of cheese making to the Cistercian monks, as does Burgundy owe much of its wine making knowledge to the monks of Cluny and Citeaux. However Burgundy is also synonymous with overpriced wines on wine lists and the UK is no exception to that. Invariably this is down to well established wine companies with exclusive agency rights to top named producers, and charging colossal mark up in the outset, this mark up is then transferred to a restaurant wine list and then on to you the customer. The practice of putting a mark up of £30 on a bottle of wine simply because the label happens to have the word 'Beaune' on it is commonplace.
At the Wine Cave we have a simple philosophy that is to make Burgundy accessible to as many people as possible. By virtue of buying good quality wines from small, lesser known producers, we are able to pass on to our customers a level of quality and value for money that is otherwise unheard of in the UK. This is highlighted by our offering no less than six Grand Cru Burgundies for under £36.00!
Small margins mean that Wine Cave continues to uphold the values and traditions of its founder Denis Watkins, passed on down through his son Pascal.
